The Foundation

A meeting of all the Medical Biochemists of Gujarat was held on 16th April 2014 at Government Medical College, Baroda to plan the formation of Gujarat chapter of AMBI. The meeting commenced by a welcome address by Dr. Shilpa Jain. Proposals for the formation of executive body were invited. N.H.L Municipal medical college was the proposed headquarter for AMBI Gujarat Chapter. And Finally “AMBI Gujarat Chapter” was started in September 2014 with due permission of AMBI National Body.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED, AWARDS & HONOURS YEAR 2023-24

Our AMBI Gujarat Chapter members enthusiastically participated in a variety of conferences and workshops. They were invited as guest speakers or participated as delegates, facilitating the dissemination of academic knowledge. Here is a summary of these academic events and the members contribution in 2023-24.

1. AMBICON 2023 Conference, Navi Mumbai
The end of the year 2023 was very eventful for AMBI members as the Annual AMBICON 23 conference was held in Navi Mumbai. The conference was attended by many delegates from AMBI Gujarat chapter. In addition to the academic feast which was sumptuous, the attending delegates were thrilled by the multiple honours conferred on Gujarat Chapter and its members.

Symposium on “ANALYTICAL AND CLINICAL VALIDATION OF LABORATORY INVESTIGATIONS”

The Department of Biochemistry, GMERS Medical College, Gandhinagar organized this Symposium on 18/02/2024 under the aegis of AMBI. The symposium was a huge success with active participation of 123 MD Biochemists from all over Gujarat state. We had guest speakers like Dr. Shilpa Jain, Dr. Kirankumar Chauhan, Dr. Piyush tailor, Dr. Ashish Agravatt and Dr. Sarita Patel.

Homeostasis - The Annual Gujarat state Biochemistry quiz

The Gujarat state Annual Biochemistry quiz is conducted by GCS medical College Ahmedabad since 2015. The 7th edition of this quiz was held on 3rd May this year. It was a full day of quizzing with participation of 50 teams from all over Gujarat. The quiz was conducted by Our Quizmaster Dr. Ramesh Pradhan sir.

CME on Internal Quality Control In Clinical Laboratory

The Department of Biochemistry at the Government Medical College, Surat and the New Civil Hospital Surat Laboratory Service (NCHSLS) conducted a one-day CME on “Internal Quality Control In Clinical Laboratory”. Faculties and resident doctors from the different medical colleges in Gujarat participated in this CME. Dr. S.M.Patel was internal speaker and Dr. Piyush Tailor , Dr. Kirankumar Chauhan were invited as guest speakers

The Gujarat Chapter of Association of Clinical Chemistry & Lab Medicine Practitioners (ACCLMP), held a Pre-conference CME at Ahmedabad, on 14th September 2023. The venue of the CME was the Narendra Modi Medical College, Ahmedabad. The theme was “Laboratory Updates”. Dr. Rosy Lekharu and Dr. Kirankumar P. Chauhan were invited as speakers. Dr. Rosy Lekharu presented an engaging talk on the nuances of “Quality Assurance in Blood Gas Analysis.”Dr. Kirankumar Chauhan delivered a talk on “QMS in Clinical Laboratory”.

It was a moment of glory for AMBI Gujarat Chapter, when our members Dr. Kirankumar Chauhan and Dr. Piyush Tailor were invited as Guest speakers at the Gujarat Association of Pathology and Microbiology Conference (GAPM-23). Dr. Kirankumar Chauhan and Dr. Piyush Tailor held a Panel discussion on the topic “Eternal Dilemma: Pros and Cons of use of Dry Vs Wet Chemistry in Clinical Laboratory”, on 17th December 2023.

Dr. Hiren Sanghani

We are Proud and happy to share that, Dr. Hiren Sanghani ,Professor and Head, GMERS Medical College Morbi, received a "PATENT" for new liquid formulation of a drug - Nintedanib from The Patent Office, Govt of India. He worked with a team of Pharmacologist and pharmacists and It took him 3 long yrs to prepare this formulation. Nintedanib is a small molecule indolinone derivative that binds the tyrosine kinase receptors. The proposed mechanism of action is the restriction of neo-angiogenesis by inhibiting a number of growth factors such as *FGFR, VEGFR, PDGFR, CSF1R, and FLT3.1. This drug is Liquid formulation given orally for the treatment of Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Dr Hardik Mahant

Assistant Professor at Baroda Medical College, completed his Fellowship in Genetic Diagnosis, from December 2023 to May 2024.The fellowship training included screening of Metabolic disorders and Prenatal high risk screening. The screening protocols included testing across multiple analytical platforms, and covered Metabolic screening, Genetic screening and Cytogenetic screening. This fellowship authorizes Dr. Hardik Mahant to establish Genetic and Newborn Screening Laboratory and is a pre-requisite for eligibility to receive grants for the same, under DBT.

Dr. Shubhangi Rathod

Assistant Professor in Biochemistry, at Dr. N. D. Desai Medical College, had enrolled for a summer internship on Proteomics, conducted by IIT Bombay. It was a very informative and engaging course with online lectures, assignments and quizzes. Dr.Shubhangi won the program’s Quiz event, held at the workshop culmination bootcamp, at IIT Bombay.
